Crystal Ayala: From Puerto Rico to Houston, a Voice for Ethical Journalism at Telemundo

Talking about investigative journalism is about passion, commitment, and complete dedication. Crystal Ayala, anchor of Noticiero Telemundo Houston, embodies all of that and more.

“I chose this career because it has a public service component. We work for our community, to deliver information that is essential,” she tells us with emotion and conviction.

With 13 Emmy Awards for journalistic excellence and three recognitions from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), Crystal has raised the bar for investigative journalism. Her impressive career includes interviews with major political figures like former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden.
But beyond the accolades, for Crystal the real reward is making a positive impact on her community.

“We wear many hats: mom, wife, sister… but we always strive to share the most verified information, and nowadays, that’s a real challenge,” she explains with determination.

Influencers vs. Professional Training

When it comes to the rise of digital media and influencers, Crystal underscores the importance of formal training in journalism:
“Anyone can report information, but we study ethics, we fact-check, we verify credible sources. It’s a long and serious process.

Ayala stresses that:
“At Telemundo Houston, we report the facts as they are—without opinions—because we trust that our audience is intelligent enough to make their own decisions.

The “Mom” Version

With such a demanding professional life, the question about her personal side comes naturally.

“The most important version of me is as a mom. My children are my everything,” she shares tenderly.

Although her evening schedule is intense, she ensures that “Quality time with my kids is sacred. Weekends are completely dedicated to them.”

Will She Return to Her Homeland?

Originally from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Crystal shares with nostalgia:
“I never rule out returning to my homeland someday—living peacefully near the beach, enjoying natural, local food.”

Despite the physical distance, her heart remains deeply tied to her roots.

A strong, faithful woman, passionate about salsa music and gardening, Crystal also acknowledges her vulnerable side:
“I worry a lot about protecting my loved ones, especially with everything we see daily.”

And with great emotion, she shares her greatest loss—the passing of her mother nearly two years ago:
“She was always healthy, but cancer is silent and devastating.”

The Power of Hispanic Sisterhood

In closing, Crystal Ayala offers a heartfelt message to all Hispanic women:
“As women, we often struggle to ask for help—but we must. Not everything applies to everyone. Let’s be empathetic, supportive, and always extend a hand to those who need it.”

Crystal Ayala is pure inspiration—a real, sensitive, and passionate woman who reminds us of the power of ethical journalism, the importance of family, and the beauty of female empathy.
